My wife and I have visited San Francisco a number of times in recent years and each time we find our way to Fisherman's Wharf and Musee Mecanique. This entry revived many great memories of these visits. A wonderful place which reminds us of times past and the ingenuity of our forebears!

Thanks Bonnie. I agree, David and BoingBoing really are terrific. We had a lot of fun with him and Dan Zelinsky at the Musee. Both are ready to take over this OpenRoad work whenever they want.....or at least join me. I'm having too much fun to quit yet. And Bill, I really appreciate the comment and the sentiment. Nothing wrong with technology....as long as we also get ourselves and our kids into nature's universe, too, whether it's far away or in our own neighborhoods and backyards. We look forward to passing along what we find out....and hearing what others have to share. Dogs included. We are an equal species publisher.

Doug is at it again, leading us into the nooks and crannies, both urban and wild we otherwise would miss. My office is a few miles from Musee Mecanique and I never knew it was there. A week ago, I read a comment by a forest ranger regarding declining visits by kids to our natural wonders: Yosemite, Death Valley, Lassen, Shasta, the High Sierra. Have they all been seduced by iPods and Blackberries? Keep us seeking the far horizon, Doug.
