Default Sailing San Francisco Bay from Point Richmond (pics)...

Hello All,

I thought I would share some photos I took during an afternoon sailing on a friend's boat on San Francisco Bay. I got some shots of Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, and other boats out on the water that day. I hope you enjoy it!

Setting out from the harbor

Out on the open water

One end of Angel Island

Another shot of the island

Something big headed our way...

...getting closer...

... and passing by. What a beautiful boat!

Headed off into the sunset

The bridge in the distance.

Click here to view the Open Road video Angel Island by Land and Sea, which includes several useful links.

It was a great afternoon. I hope you enjoyed the trip!

Cheers,
Mike

Back in the late 80's I was invited along to work as a crew member on a sailboat during a race on the San Francisco Bay by a co-worker. I believe it was a J-24 sailboat, and they needed me for ballast as I was around 260 lbs at the time.

At one point during the day, I caught something out of the corner of my eye right next to our boat that I could swear was the back of a whale breaking the surface of the water and then going back under. It was about 15 feet off the side of our boat, and it really spooked me. But then I was left wondering if I'd really seen anything or it was my imagination.

Great pictures. The Bay is a tricky place to sail with a lot of currents and strong gusts. As your pictures show though, the views you get are some of the best I've seen sailing.

How many people have seen the underside of the Bay Bridge ?
